North Brink Practice

Context

Free to Be was invited to North Brink Practice to support staff wellbeing within a busy healthcare setting. The session was delivered for the healthcare team as part of an intentional pause from clinical pressures, recognising the emotional and physical demands faced by staff in everyday practice.

Aim of the Session

  • To boost staff morale through joyful, pressure-free movement

  • To strengthen team spirit and connection

  • To offer a healthy release from workplace stress

  • To remind staff of the importance of caring for themselves as well as others

Description of Activity

The session introduced the team to carefree dancing in a relaxed and supportive environment. There were no steps to follow and no expectations placed on anyone. Music was used simply as an invitation to move, laugh, and let go.

Staff were encouraged to participate in whatever way felt comfortable, whether that meant full movement, gentle swaying, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. Very quickly, hesitation gave way to smiles, laughter, and shared moments of lightness across the team.

Participants

Participants included members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, representing a range of clinical and non-clinical roles within the practice.

Safeguarding & Consent

  • Participation was voluntary

  • Any photos or videos were taken only with explicit consent

  • Additional participants engaged fully but were not filmed, respecting privacy and confidentiality

Outcomes & Impact

  • Noticeable lift in mood and energy among staff

  • Laughter and relaxed interaction across roles and teams

  • Strengthened sense of unity and shared experience

  • Staff reported feeling lighter and more connected afterwards

Feedback Summary

Feedback from both participants and facilitators was overwhelmingly positive:

“This was exactly what we needed.”

“It brought us together in a different way.”

“It felt freeing to just move without thinking.”

“I haven’t laughed like that at work in a long time.”

Reflection

This session highlighted how important moments of joy are within healthcare environments that are often fast-paced and demanding. Free to Be at North Brink Practice showed that even a short period of carefree movement can reset energy, reconnect teams, and remind staff of their shared humanity. It reinforced the value of creating space for wellbeing at work, not as an extra task, but as a vital part of sustaining those who care for others every day.
